Assignment 1: Objects as Subjects

1. Form
I was trying to capture a cloud as a form. Feedback was that there can be more shading to increase the feel of 3D-ness. I do agree and will be in search of a another nice cloud soon.

2. Shapes
I wanted to capture te repeated diamond shapes of the gate. But It feels more like portrayal of lines. I will be changing this for sure.

3. Colour
I captured a bee and was so proud of it. ut it end up that it is distracting. I love capturing insects for some strange reason, but I think it is hindering the colours of this photo. If only the bee is in bright yellow!

4. Lines
Lines of a leave. This was my favourite picture. My friends mentioned that the part under the shade is distracting. I will consult more people with regards to that.

5. Texture
This is a part of a tree's bark. It was mentioned during critique that the ends of the photos are quite distracting. But I feel personally that the sides of poppng out barks give a more holistic feeling of the texture. I shall consult more people.

I think I am going to reshoot for this assignment with my new D90! It is quite interesting to look at photos the rest have taken, some were really good!

Introduction

Hello! I am Yee Chuan!

I took up NM3223 because I've always loved to learn very hands-on skills such as graphic design, etc! In the past, I use a digital camera merely to take photos with my friends at occasions or of myself. During the summer holidays earlier this year, I intern-ed at Winter Time as a graphic designer. I then realize photography is closely related with graphic design. I thought: 'Instead of googling/paying for images, why not I take photos on my own for my graphics?" This is one of the reason that added on to my desire to learn more about photography.

Why is my blog named as "Photos of K"? K aka Baby Kay is my little niece, barely 1 year old. Ever since she is born, she had been my little precious/darling. I love capturing her cute moves and expressions. And I don't wanna miss a thing about her! These reasons make me want to own a good DSLR sooooo much. Throughout this course, I think I will have so many pictures of her!

At the beginning of this course, I was using my sister's Nikon D40. I couldn't resist buying a better and my own DSLR, so I bought D90 not long ago! I hope my photography journey will be fun-filled and love-filled. I don't want to simply take nice pictures, but meaningful pictures!

Gambatte!
